A Sad Day

P1000001

Nova
March 1997 – January 6, 2011

nova5It saddens me that this is my first post of the year.  Earlier today, we had to put our cat, Nova, to sleep.  We found out yesterday that his whole chest cavity had filled with liquid, making it difficult for him to breathe with what little lung capacity was left.  Additionally, they found a baseball-size mass in his abdominal area that they suspect was cancer.

This was a hard decision.  Nova has faced adversity several times in the past, including a recurring lymph node problem (since he was a kitten) and kidney issues (over the last few years).  He was definitely a fighter and a trooper, but I don’t think he would have won this battle, even if we pulled out all the stops.

Nova lived a long life, almost 14 years.  He was a great companion, a beautiful animal, and he will be missed.

So sorry to hear about your kitty. I have been in your position several times, and it never gets easier. You have some beautiful photos of him, and hopefully many, many good memories. Our thoughts are with you tonight.

Julie, from one cat lover to another, I am very sorry for your loss. Nova was a member of your family and you will grieve for quite a while. Been over a year for me, and I still wonder where he is at times. You've got some great pictures and thanks for sharing. Remember, Nova will always be with you, you were both lucky to have each other. My best to you at this sad time.

Julie, I am so sorry for your loss. Our pets share our lives and become part of the fabric of who we are and, unfortunately, their time with us is never long enough. It is especially hard when they tell us, it's time. Having your love be the last thing our much-loved pets take with them is what they deserve. I am truly sorry and wish you comfort.

Fondly,
Cindy

What a handsome boy he was; looks like he loved to pose. I'm so sorry to hear that you have lost him, but am sure that he had a wonderful home with you while he was here.

Oh, Julie, I'm so sorry. The decision to put down a beloved pet, a member of the family, is one of the hardest ones I know. He was a beautiful cat and I know you will miss him. Thank goodness for memories. Blessings to you and the rest of his family.

Julie, I am so sorry for your loss. Our family suffered a similiar loss on December 10, 2010 We had to put our beloved 16 year old poodle to sleep. He had been with us since he was 6 weeks old. We miss him very much but we have wonderful memories of him as I'm sure you have of Nova.

This is a bad week for us. My dog and your beautiful cat. I feel every bit of your pain right now as it has been only 2 days for us.
I had amazing support from the blog community and I hope it helps you as much as it helps me to know that others truly do send us hugs.
It is such a hard decision to make yet they count on us to make.
Big hugs to you.

Julie - I am truly saddened to hear about Nova. It is exactly like losing a member of your family and don't let anyone tell you any different. My cat Piggy is almost 10 years old and I know when it is his time, I will be devastated. I am sending you hugs and hope for a brighter tomorrow.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Have been there. The four-legged family members are just a much a part of our families as the two-legged ones. Never easy saying goodbye.

I am so sorry for the loss of the feline member of your family. Just remember you did the right thing. I know it doesn't make the pain go away.

I love the picture of Nova on his back. It reminds me of one of our long gone kitties.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your gorgeous cat. I have lost many cats myself and it is devastating.

In more cheerful news, I found myself after wandering over to this blog from Who Will Tell Their Story? because that blog is Blogger's Blog of Note today!

So sorry to hear of the loss of your sweet kitty, Julie.

(BTW, the word verification for this comment is "merow," almost like "meow." Kind of like your cat saying hello!)

I do not believe in accidents, I think I found your blog so I could share about Toby. So sad to read about your kitty. He was a beautiful boy. I lost my Toby a year ago in December and I still seem to feel him all around. He was a grey Taby. I recently wrote a short story about his death at associated content. I wanted to share that with you. I am sorry for your loss and I do know how you feel. Barbara Amaya

Greetings from sunny South Africa!
I am so sorry for your lost.
To cheer yourself up, I highly
recommend that you read a fascinating book called "The Lottery Code". It will show you that there are no coincidences!
And if you doubt that God speaks to people in our time, now you can read this book and judge for yourself.
This South African woman discovered a hidden code in the British Lottery which communicated messages to her. As wierd as it sounds, the messages in her book are all based on fact. I downloaded her book for free
from Website:
http://www.thelotterycode.net
God bless you and I really hope you can read her story because it will change your life completely like it changed mine.
Regards Martin
